lol ozzie..well i was raised going to a spanish-speaking congregation and yea i agree in general they are more zealous, altho it might not be the case with individual people..altho i do know that if i ever needed a place to sleep, somthing to eat or anything at all the memebers of the congregation (most of them anyway) would be more than willing to help you. Not that this doesnt happen in congos with people from other backgrounds, but i have noticed there is a lil more of that family-warmth between people in Hispanic congos. Could be a coincidnece but the culture does play a large part in how people treat each other. Just my humble opnion..I dont like to sterotype either..Ok now im gonna go play the maracas with a basket of fruit on my head...arrrrrrrrriba!!!

Jehovah's Witnesses Seek To Expand Presence In Brooklyn

Aside from the fact they would be expanding, another reason it would suck is they would be using alot of good space. The area of DUMBO is def. up and coming and im sure in time it wouldve been put to alot of good use for the the residents of downtown brooklyn. They have alot of business already im sure it would expand into alot more. Of course the WTS will just be using alot of good freakin space...besides they are not cool enough to be in brooklyn

Is JW all doom and gloom?
by uninitiated ini am in a relationship with a man who is jw.
the things he tells me leads me to believe that their beliefs espouse doing nothing to better the world as it is hopeless, and all is coming to an end anyway.
this seems like a cowardly way to face the hardships in this world.

generally yes. Like if theres a commercial on tv for starving kids technically they arent supposed to send money to the foundation who helps poor children because that means they are putting their faith in man and not in God becausehe is the only one who can help the bad and terrible things in the world..i was surprised during 9/11 so many that i knew (who were JW's) went to Ground Zero to help with the cleanup. Then again the WT in brooklyn woudlve looked really bad not helping with a disaster in such large scale, in a city where they house their headquarters, and we know they cant have bad publicity..so there u go

What are Americans taught about U.S and what do you really believe?
by sleepy injust wondering what exactly americans (u.s.a) are taught about their country in school .do you really salute a flag, do you swear allegiance to the country.
are you taught that you fought for freedom, and that america is the land of the free, etc etc?
do you actually believe what you are taught?

im confused by a post by Country Girl on the first page of this thread. You say that if you are canadian or from the USA then you are american but if you are latino or black than you are still american even if you're parents arent? I dont get that because if youre CANADIAN you are not american althought you are from North America, but if you're from Colombia that you are latin but arent you an american as well cuz it is in LATIN america isnt it? So esentially yea youre right we are all american by birth but not by blood.. NO ONE in this country is a native..everyone came from somewhere else even if youve lived here for 10 generations. So to claim that someone cannot include their bloodline or ethnicity with their national birth place in their personal description is ridiculous because no one here can have that "luxury" everyone has a bloodline from somewhere else. So the "white" people are still irish-american, italian-american, polish-american OR african-american (and yes some people do know what tribe they came from) Latin-american (cuz you could have parent from south american or the carribean or Spain and be LATIN born in america) OR chinese-american. It just doesnt make sense. I dont think anyone should be treated speacial, but to think we shouldnt recognize what is the core of this country which IS immigration is preposterous and ignorant...
Thank you

The English Language

there is no egg in eggplant nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple.

Pet Peeves thread...
by Brummie inthis kinda thread has probably been done before... someone phones me at work and when i say hello they say "hold on" and start talking to someone else, they dont tell me who they are and i'm hanging on hearing them chat to someone who is with them on the other end, 5 mins later they introduce themselves and tell me what they want.
that is a pet peeve.. another, for example, go to the fridge and both tubs of butter are open and both blocks of cheese instead of finishing one off and then opening the other.
thats just a small pet peeve but its one none the less.. miserable sod arnt i though?.

I dont know if im wrong about this, but i hate it when people say they are of a particular background simply because they are born there. Like if they have French Parents and they are born in Greece they say the are Greek. And then you meet the Fam and NO ONE is actually Greek. Its really confusing and really annoying to me!

Single Witnesses and Sexuality
by JH inhealthy adults want/need sex a couple of times a week in average, if not every day.
the bible says to get married first, then have sex after.
but for some witnesses, they will never get married for various reasons, sometimes out of their control.

I agree that people should have the right to do what they want with their bodies as long as they dont hurt themselves or others. I dont see how masturbating is wrong, especially for young boys who get very curious about their sexuality. I def dont see why the WT has to get involved, altho they get involved with EVERYTHING
by the way JH why do u have a pic of Fidel..Ay
